Wonderboyz "Tarzan" MV review

Wonderboyz is a fairly new Korean boy group. They entered the k-pop industry in 2012, and a couple weeks ago they released their second single called "Tarzan". This song is with it's simple choice in music, but fun video a very delightful song to listen to, and a sweet story to watch. After their first single "Open the door" which was a fun and upbeat song, but with a deeper message, this song is again sure to lift your mood but with a more poppy feeling instead of the hip hop feel the first single gave of.

The music and singing is something that has to be mentioned together as they both worked well. The music left the spotlight for the singing this time though. Whereas most songs focus on both this song seemed to pull the music a little into the background to make room for some exquisite vocals. The singers seemed in great harmony with each other, and at some times even sounded alike, but with some subtle differences that made sure that the listener wasn't disappointed. The rappers also made their firm point in showing themselves as they had rough sounding vocals, and made the song a bit heavier. The fact that there was singing with a light and soft feeling and some rap with a more heavy fell to it, made the song better to listen to, and the two sounds really fit well with each other. Many boy group songs can often seem a little to cute, but the adding of some heavier, but not to bombastic rap, toned it down a little and made room for the cute MV to fill the viewers with cuteness overload. There is also used very quiet "hey" yells as they echos though the whole song. This ads even more manliness to it, yet is doesn't over do anything as there is a great balance between the soft and hard sounds.
Eventhough the music stayed a little in the background, doesn't mean that it wasn't well made. The overall feel was catchy and is an easy song to listen to. There is no need to feel happy or sad, this song is right for every mood. Almost. The singing added roughness, and created the feeling of the Tarzan theme, but the music did it's magic to as it had some heavy drums in the background. It gave a feeling of manliness and compensated some more to the sweet video.
There was the classic Tarzan yell spread out through the song. This reference gave the theme and name of the song even more meaning. There have been tough about how to incorporate the Tarzan theme, and for that we should be grateful. It creates memorable places in the song, which the listener will sing along to rather quickly. Not only is the yell used, but the name itself is sung a lot of times though the chorus  and once again makes it easy for the listener to relate to and sing along to very fast.

Moving on to the move itself.
This one is a rather cute story with a man in his room, his own world, looking at the outside through a kaleidoscope and observing the world he don't know, and more specifically a woman from the outside world. The way the Tarzan story has been portrayed in a new way is well done, as the original can still be seen in this version. When he is using the kaleidoscope the movie goes into a state where it looks like it's the view from the kaleidoscope. This is a nice tough and is also almost the only way we see the dance in this MV. The original story is also being shown, in which we see it through the movie the main character watches or through a comic he is reading. The comic he is reading comes to live in a way, and this is a very fun character to the MV. It's very cute and a nice way to show a comic in a video instead of plain pages. It was a nice surprise. But even though both the movie and the comic is great ways to show the original story there is one thing that bothers me. The way Tarzan (played by the leader Bak Chi Gi) flies through the air on a vine looks rather awkward as he is using a pose that is impossible to hold in the air like he does. Even though it might should have been a fun little thing, it made me take my head out of the MV itself, and bring my thoughts on to how he even did that move. It was unnecessary, as it might take viewers out of their focus from the MV.

The acting from the main character was nicely done. The loneliness that he was feeling in his room could be seen often as he looked aimlessly into the ceiling, or outside with a sad facial expression. At a point in the MV he dries dust of his window and looks at his expression as he reached for his own hand in the reflection. Here there is a feeling of "who am i" or even a feeling of him imagining that the reflection is the girl he watches, as we in the next scene see the scene from the original Tarzan reaching out his hand to the girl and they kind of measure hands in a connecting moment.

Moving on the the dance and the looks.
The dance was very well though of as there was hints of the theme once again as they were hitting their chests, and making movements to show them yelling. The dance seems, in the chorus easy but still complicated enough to make it look great and strong. The other few clips of the dance seems more difficult but still very nice and with great effort. Though I have to say that the dance didn't really fit into this MV, as it was showing the story most of the time, but with small dance breaks thrown in here and there. The dance itself is neat and amazing, and the dance version is really something, but if there should be dance there should be more than 4 or 5 times of it showing. It's sad because I really like it, but it seems out of place when there is so little of it.
When looking at the outfits I can say that the persons portrayed in the MV is very well dressed, and the clothe fit them. The main character is someone who seems lonely and his room seems sloppy. Therefore it's obvious that he should wear shabby clothe himself, and glasses instead of contacts. It's really nicely done.
But then again i have to address the dance part, and it's outfits. The black leather-ish clothe is not really doing it for me. It once again seems out of place. I would have chosen something with more earthy colors as brown and green, and maybe combined it into some king of army Tarzan clothe.

Overall I can say that i think the song is amazing, and the video is great. Though there is something I personally don't think fits in the video, or seems awkward, it still binds the whole video together to what it is. And without it I would probably also miss it. I would ask myself where the dance is, because there always is some, and therefor i am thankful that there is just a bit in this one. But the song is catchy and i really love it, and how it was done.
What do you think about the song and Music video? let me know <3
